Vision

Successful Shia Youth

Mission

To build a community of young people who are engrossed in their faith, successful in their education, strong in their physique, and possess a clear path ahead in their career.

History

For the past 25 years, the Shia community in northwest London have been organising ad-hock programmes to serve the English-speaking communities. This has ranged from Majlis, international trips to the holy lands, recreational activities, and media content to foster a strong Shia identity.

In the recent 10 years, several organisations have been established to serve the community. They have either hired halls or worked with local community centres to run their programmes. The community has failed to pass on the responsibility to the youth, leaving many youths disconnected from their centres and therefore distant from their faith.

Shia Islamic centres in northwest London have yet to adopt English programmes to ensure that new communities have a place where they can engage with fellow members of the community.

Many second-generation young professionals aged between 30-45 have established families, and businesses and made the United Kingdom their home. These families have been left disenfranchised by the current status quo and in turn, have been distant from the community.

In the past number of years, a number of organisations began to target youth between the ages of 7-16 to provide dedicated programmes to ensure they understand the basic tenets of their faith. However, they also amalgamated recreational programmes to keep the youth engaged.

Moving Forward

Our focus is centred around four key factors

Soul

Living in the UK and generally in the West, faith is frowned upon and liberal values have been seeping into the homes of our communities. Phones and digital gadgets have overcome families and how much they can control what their children are exposed to. Unless there is a sophisticated programme to engage young people and educate them about their faith, we can assume that within time we will lose a whole generation. Whatever religious education they are getting, at home, is getting drowned out by the tens of hours they are spending online/school. An environment which is particularly focused on a faithless, materialistic view of life.

Young people must be exposed to a dedicated programme focusing on their beliefs, acts of conduct, the history of their leaders and an ethical programme which promotes a moral way of life.

Body

We believe that young people must engage in physical activities to further develop their minds and body. The online environment has created a keyboard community, who are isolated and lack the basic social conduct to engage with fellow members of the community. We believe that sports and physical activity will not only foster a healthier group of young Shia Muslims but also create lasting bonds between them for life. Sports also plays a role in installing discipline and conduct under the right supervision.

Sports will also instil a sense of masculinity for males which is now a problematic concept in our society.

Mind

To nurture a successful community, they must be academically successful to secure good jobs to sustain their families. Furthermore, to also give back and support existing activities.

life

As part of our push for academic excellence, young people need to be given direction in their lives. Students are driven to seek careers in medicine and related sciences. Exposing young people to a plethora of career choices will ensure that everyone has something to work towards in their lives.
